RARE 1848 postal stationery essay by Charles Whiting with Wyon type head
Essay by Charles Whiting, employing the Wyon type head facing to right with a curl, which was intended for pre-paid postal stationery, being printed in rose-red ink on white wove paper with embossing bearing the legend Paid. Whiting produced this die to carry on with experiments after Somerset House took the Wyon head die away for experiments as it was giving poor results. This example is the 1848 reprint showing white marks at the bottom of the neck. (The Wyon head faced to the left) A rare and most attractive item. At the moment, please check out my other listings.
